Design statement:
Are we ‘in touch’ with the way we view Hong Kong in the present? How should we see the world now that everything is changing so fast after 1997? Is there a sense of connection with our environment, culture, the Arts and with people? Questions for contemplation.
To signify a sense of lost identity and connection with the city, this typography creating a message with old Hong Kong coins with the head of Queen Elizabeth II in various denominations.
As these distinctive and unique coins go out of circulation, so will the freedom of this city also disappear? Each single coin depicted here has it own value. As this currency goes out of circulation, we are witnessing our personal lives, experiences, values and freedom also diminishing. These symbols of existence gradually fade out one by one, leaving behind only remnants of a bygone era.
